We all know that “one hit wonder” in the pop music world refers to an artist who composed just one song and then disappeared doing little else that mattered.  Of course, this is not true at all.  The reality is that they composed many tunes – some that they liked even more than their chart topper.  In other words, they were busy trying and “failing” and trying again… composing tunes that did not make the charts. 

Does this mean they were failures?  Far from it. They were like most of us… getting up and trying to do something great.  And even though that artist had only one chart topper, they had the heroic experience of trying every day, and knowing that in the end they left a legacy that won’t ever be forgotten.  So, the next time someone dismissively says “that guy was a one hit wonder”, you know better and like me kill to have a chart topper even just one time.

Like Sir Paul McCartney was not the walrus, I’m not the one hit wonder that gives the book its title.  The title comes from a chapter in the book about my entrepreneurial journey in building a company.  And as with all my adventures and experiences in life… I learned some lesson that could make me a better person. 

This life-long process of doing and learning is not unique to me.  I did not create it.  It’s a process that has been practiced by people over the centuries and is called sometimes called the hero’s journey or the path of the warrior. 

Go ahead.  Pick up the book and turn the pages.  See if you don’t laugh, cry and maybe even learn some of the lessons I did…  and in that process inspire those around you to life’s possibilities.
